My name is Shayna Ritchie, and I am an Indigenous educator from Treaty 6 territory in northern Saskatchewan. I have been teaching for seventeen years, working with students from elementary to secondary levels. I am a proud member of the Asiniy Nehithiwak (Rocky Cree) and speak fluent Cree.
I am passionate about keeping the Cree language and culture alive. I still practice my traditional ways by trapping, fishing, and hunting, just as my ancestors did. These traditions keep me connected to my roots and help me teach others about our way of life. My goal is to create a digital Cree language program that will be open to anyone, regardless of their background, so more people can learn and help keep our language strong for future generations.
